Towards the end of my sophomore year, I received a call alerting me to my acceptance into the Heritage Greece Program sponsored by the National Hellenic Society. This program is designed to reconnect Greek-Americans with the language and culture that wasn't passed down by our grandparents when they immigrated to the United States.
Over the course of two weeks I had the opportunity to travel to Athens Greece where I took language and culture classes at Deree, visited world class museums/ historical sites, and travel to Andros.
This was an experience that reconnected me with my family culture that was lost generations ago and evoked pride in my heritage for the first time. I learned Greek dances, ate plenty of Greek food and made memories that I will never forget.
