Taking Field Methods sophomore year gave me an introduction into what it is like to be a field geologist. During this class students took trips around the greater Austin area to:
Stratigraphy
Outcrops
Field Maps
Geologic Histories
Cross Sections
Environmental Depositional Environments
Stratigraphic Logs
This class not only taught us field concepts in geology, but it also taught us field skills like what to pack, what to wear, how to take good field notes, and how to better prepare yourself for a multitude of circumstances geologists might encounter in the field. Other outcomes of this class including using grain size cards, proper use of rock hammers, and applicability of classroom learning to real life examples in the field.
